How does context effect the way in which we view literary works?

We should always aim to consider the context surrounding a literary work, so we need to consider the period in which is was written and who it was written by. This allows further analytical depth, as we can then relate context to the writers technique and our own argument and reasoning for our view on a text, whilst considering counter arguments.Having knowledge of a text's context is therefore highly significant as it means we can more fully understand the works purpose; particularly important in looking at text with a political agenda, or motive.Context additionally allows us consider different ways in which the text can be interpreted. This could be through a feminist lens, in which the student or reader would relate the content of the piece with feminist theory and ideology.
