What is the difference between pronouns and adjectives?

A pronoun is a word used as a substitute for a noun or a noun-phrase. For example "mon chat" can be replaced by "le mien" (meaning mine). An adjective is a word used to enhance or modify the meaning of noun or noun-phrase. In the noun-phrase "le joli chat", the word "joli" (pretty) gives extra information about the cat.
