How do I find the distance between two point in the plane?

We can use Pythagoras' Theorem applied to co-ordinates of these points.

How would I find a the tangent of a point on a line?

The point on the circle x^2+y^2+6x+8y = 75 which is closest to the origin, is at what distance from the origin? (Taken from an MAT paper)

Use the addition formulas: sin(x+y)=sin(x)*cos(y)+sin(y)*cos(x), cos(x+y)=cos(x)*cos(y)-sin(x)*sin(y) to derive sin(2x), cos(2x), sin(x)+sin(y).

Solve the simultaneous equations: x^2 + y^2 = 10 and x + 2y = 5
