What is the difference between mitosis and meiosis?

The main difference between the two is that only normal body cells go through it, so for instance your skin cells go trough mitosis whereas MEIOSIS is specifically for sex cells, so for instance for the production of gametes of spores in plants. Another key difference between the two is that mitosis is one cellular division so the cells only divide once whereas meiosis there is a double division. The most important division, though, is this: with mitosis you start with a diploid cell (2n) and you end with 2 diploid cells, whereas since meiosis prepares gametes and sex cells the sex division ensures that the cells are haploid cells (n).
