Make x the subject of the equation: 2x+7=5x

Making x the subject means we must rearrange the equation to get it into the form 'x='First, we need to get all the x's on one side; to do so, we will subtract 2x from each side to give 2x+7-2x=5x-2x. This simplifies to 7=3x.Now we must divide through by 3 on each side as we have 3 lots of x but we are looking to find 1 lot of x; 7/3 =3x/3.This then simplifies to 7/3=x. this is the final answer-unless otherwise stated, students should leave answers as a simplified fraction as this is more accurate that rounding a decimal.
