How should I structure my essay?

A solid structure is key when writing essays! In the introduction, you should:introduce your argumentexplain how your argument sits in relation to the question/statementintroduce some context relevant to your argumentsummarise how the writer’s techniques support your argumentIn the body of your essay, you should structure your argument as follows:Point: what is your point/argument? E.g. "Chaucer presents the Wife of Bath as a rebel against attitudes towards sexual morality in the medieval period."Evidence: use a quotation or reference that is relevant to your argument and supports it - it is important that you are selective with your quotations/references. E.g. "Venus me yaf my lust".Explain: Explain the effect of the quote. E.g. "Through the use of astrological allusion, the Wife aligns herself with Venus, the goddess of love and sex. Link: Always link your argument back to the question, using the key terms of the question. E.g. "In doing so, the Wife presents herself as an anti-type of women who practice sound sexual morality.In the conclusion, you should:Summarise your argument in relation to the question/statementExplain what you have discovered by examining the text in detail
