What should I include when analysing a source?

The acronym NOPA is a helpful one to remember when looking at sources. N stands for Nature, O for Origin, P for purpose and A for audience.Nature usually includes what type of source you are looking at, for example a diary entry. The origin would cover the context of the source - who is it written by and when. The purpose of a source refers to why the source was written. Finally, audience looks at who the source was inteded for.Also, when alaysing sources one should consider the significance of these areas and what implications it has on the source.
