How can I successfully answer an essay question which asks me to analyse the effect of various factors on a particular outcome? (E.g. How different events contributed to causing WW2)

The key to answering lengthy essay questions lies in two things: (1) Planning and (2) Structure. When analysing the significance of various factors, it is imperative to make a detailed plan in order to clarify your thoughts. Here, your line of argument will naturally become apparent. You will realise whilst planning what your opinion is regarding the importance of each factor.

Next, a well-structured essay is necessary to score highly. This includes an introduction which shows the reader that you understand the question and informs them how you intend to answer it, a main body of argument that flows coherently, and a concise conclusion to complete the essay. Other factors such as ensuring that you have read around the subject enough and that you re-read your work carefully, are also very important.
