How do I know when to use the subjunctive mood in Spanish?

The subjunctive is notoriously difficult to master but its use does tend to follow particular rules. At this level it is important to know and have a good understanding of the folloiwing conditions which require the subjunctive:

  1. NEGATIVE expressions of opinion: e.g.

NO PIENSO QUE/NO CREO QUE sea sano comer mucho chocolate.

  1. expressions of DESIRE: e.g.

QUIERO QUE/ME GUSTARÍA QUE disfrutes esta clase.

  1. some expressions of OPINION: e.g.

ES IMPORTANTE QUE/ES NECESARIO QUE hagas un poco de deporte cada día para mantenerse en forma.

  1. with OJALÁ QUE: e.g.

¡OJALÁ QUE haga sol hoy!

REMEMBER, practice makes perfect and with time, using the subjunctive will become second nature!

¡Hasta luego!
