Solve the simultaneous equations x + y = 1 , x^2 -2xy+y^2=9

So here we want to eliminate one variable so we are only working with either x or y by themself, so to do this we can rearrange the first equation of x+y=1 to x= 1-y. This new equation can therefore be su...

The line AB has equation 5x + 3y + 3 = 0. The line AB is parallel to the line y = mx + 7. Find the value of m.

Rearrange AB into y = mx + c format: 1) 3y = -3 - 5x 2) y = - 5/3 x - 1

Compare equation with y = mx + c

Conclude m = - 5/3

You can also deduce the y-intercept of AB is -1.

Differentiate 7(3x^2+7)^(1/3)

Begin by differentiating the terms in the brackets, which gives just 6x. Bring 6x forward, out of the brackets, together with the index on the brackets - 1/3. This gives 42x/3 or 14x in front of the brack...

Solve the following simultaneous equations y + 4x + 1 = 0, y^2 + 5x^2 + 2x = 0

Here we can either use the substitution method or the elimination method. The elimination method here would be hard to carry out due to there being no term which we can make equal in terms of only one of ...
