The curve C is paramterised by the equations: x = 5t + 3 ; y = 2 / t ; t > 0 Find y in terms of x and hence find dy/dx

x = 5t + 3 -> x - 3 = 5t -> (x - 3) / 5 = t
y = 2 / t -> y = 2 / ((x - 3) / 5) -> y = 10 / (x - 3) dy/dx = d/dx (10 / (x - 3)) -> dy/dx= -10...

How do you divide polynomials? How do you do it with remainder?

I'll show you on a whiteboard or a piece of paper, there's a nice grid method you can use which is a lot easier (I think) than the weird long division way I got taught in school.

A buffer solution is made with a pH of 5.000. Solid sodium ethanoate, CH3COONa, is added to 400 cm^3 of 0.200 mol dm^–3 ethanoic acid (Ka = 1.75 × 10^–5 mol dm^–3). Calculate the mass of sodium acetate that must be dissolved in the acid to prepare this

There are three steps:
Calculate [CH3COO] using the equation for KaCalculate the moles of CH3COO using the equation concentration = moles/volu...

Given that (2x-1) : (x-4) = (16x+1) : (2x-1), find the possible values of x

The question tells us the ratio between two algebraic expressions is the same as the ratio between 2 other algebraic expressions. So, we can re-write the equation as (2x-1)/(x-4) = (16x+1)/(2x-1)Re-arrang...
