Do more tutoring lessons really mean more progress? The research you need to know

Many parents, and students too, will be wondering whether it’s really worth taking more tutoring lessons a week to help them with their studies. After all, more isn’t always better.

But what if we told you that research shows that doing more tutoring lessons actually can save you time revising and improve your grades across the board?

Let’s take a look:

So, how often should I do tutoring lessons?

That’s a good question! 1 lesson per week is a great place to start, but if you want to really up your progress taking 2 or more lessons spaced throughout the week can make a huge difference.

There are 2 ways we see MyTutor students doing this:

Taking more subjects: 21% of our Science students also take Maths lessons!  It works because so many of the skills you’re learning complement and transfer to other subjects. For example, improving your English skills will help you communicate better and tackle written exams in other subjects with confidence.

Taking more lessons in 1 subject: Over 4k MyTutor students regularly have 2+ lessons per week with MyTutor. Parents report increased confidence and fast academic progress from students who do. It works because it helps you to consolidate learning throughout the week.

What are the benefits of taking more lessons?

While we can’t give you more time before exams, we can make the time you have work harder for you. By taking regular lessons you can:

⏰ Save time

Regular lessons help you make every hour of revision count by focussing your time on building exam skills and filling knowledge gaps. With 1:1 support, you can make a grade’s worth of progress in a month.

It’s also important to remember that the time you invest in more lessons now can save you time (and stress!) cramming later on. Giving yourself regular lessons, it’s easier to improve your knowledge retention and recall what you know faster.

Top tip: Students who had 3 Maths lessons in 1 week performed better long term than those who had 3 lessons in a day – showing that cramming is really not the best way to learn.

📈 Raise grades across the board

With tutors in 30+ subjects across the curriculum, we’re on hand to help you raise grades in all your subjects.

By taking multiple lessons a week, you can build your exam skills and subject knowledge simultaneously, as well as building confidence in every subject. This is proven to help raise grades – we see students make 2.5x the progress of their peers.

In fact, research shows that multiple 1:1 lessons a week improves academic learning, confidence and classroom engagement

🎉 Get more value for money

When you take more lessons per week, you can make more progress, faster. This makes tutoring more effective and better value for money.

With tutors available who can teach multiple subjects, your teen can grow their relationship with 1 tutor, build momentum for their exams and spend less time recapping their previous lessons.

Plus, with research showing multiple lessons a week can be 20x more effective than standard tutoring, it’s definitely worth the investment. Here at MyTutor, we offer discounts for existing students looking to take more lessons – get in touch with our team to find out more!

“My daughter had a tutor for each subject. They were the most supportive, patient and determined tutors, working with my daughter’s strengths and weaknesses to get her where she needed to be, she got her first choice of Uni and is now off to study Philosophy.”
