Father’s Day: impressive fathers throughout history

Father’s Day falls on the 3rd Sunday of every year, so in 2018 it’s on Sunday 17th. Here are some impressive fathers throughout history.

Barack Obama

Obama, while being the 44th president of the United States, is dedicated to his daughters Malia and Sasha.

“When I was a young man, I thought life was all about me, but then the two of you came into my world with all your curiosity and mischief and those smiles that never fail to fill my heart and light up my day. And suddenly, all my big plans for myself didn’t seem so important anymore. I soon found that the greatest joy in my life was the joy I saw in yours.”

Across media, Obama writes declaration for his daughters and understands his importance in their lives.

Benjamin Waugh

The founder of the UK charity, the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC). A man who made if his mission to become a father for all the struggling children in the UK. In the charity’s first five years it helped nearly 4,000 children and the estimate is that, by now, it has touched the lives of more than 10 million.

Charles Darwin

The famous naturalist was also a father to 10 children! Dedicated to his children, they remember him as a loyal storyteller and someone you encouraged their freedom and interests.

Darwin’s daughter wrote “Indeed, it is impossible adequately to describe how delightful a relation his was to his family, whether as children or in their later life”

Theodore Roosevelt Sr.

President Roosevelt Jr.’s tribute said “He combined strength and courage with gentleness, tenderness and great unselfishness. He would not tolerate in us children selfishness or cruelty, idleness, cowardice, or untruthfulness. As we grew older he made us understand that the same standard of clean living was demanded for the boys as for the girls; that what was wrong in a woman could not be right in a man. With great love and patience, and the most understanding sympathy and consideration, he combined insistence on discipline.. his heart filled with gentleness for those who needed help or protection”

Charlemagne

The first ruler of the Roman Empire, Charlemagne doted on his daughters. Educating them and exposing them to the royal court, which would have been greatly frowned upon at the time. When older, these daughters gave birth to illegitimate grandchildren and Charlemagne accepted them into the family and indulged them as his own children.

This Father’s Day celebrate all the wonderful things that your parents do for you. Make sure to show them how appreciated they are.
