Real student stories: How Nadal aced his English and Science GCSEs

We know that getting the grades you need at GCSE isn’t easy. After 2 years of preparation, those final exams can be a little daunting. That’s why every year our tutors help thousands of you get the grades you need in GCSE and beyond.

So what happens when you’re given an opportunity but need to ace your GCSE grades to make the most of it? Along with so many teens, Nadal was faced with exactly this challenge.

We spoke to him and his Mum, Elle, on how they used MyTutor to help Nadal get the grades he needed to take up a private school bursary opportunity!

Elle and Nadal’s story: GCSE grade success

Elle and Nadal turned to us to find an online tutor after being offered a life-changing private school bursary. The only issue was, Nadal needed at least a 5 in core subjects to take it but was working at a grade 3 in English.

To fill knowledge gaps and help get his grades up higher, they enlisted our tutors’ help. Their goal was to get Nadal’s grades up to a 5 or higher in English and 6 or higher in Chemistry and Physics.

Here’s what they had to say about the process:

MyTutor: Since starting tutoring, has Nadal made noticeable progress?

Elle: Massively – he achieved 6s in both of his English exams and 7s in his Sciences!

MyTutor: Would you recommend MyTutor after your experience?

Elle: Yes, definitely. Without it he would never have been able to accept his private school offer and this has been absolutely life changing for him.

MyTutor: Nadal, what did you like most about your tutor?

Nadal: They were very approachable and good fun. They structured lessons well and knew their subject.

MyTutor: How has tutoring helped you to achieve your goals?

Nadal: It’s helped me focus to swiftly raise my grades, meaning I can accept my private school offer.

MyTutor: Has your tutor changed how you feel about your subject and your studies?

Nadal: English was definitely brought to life for me, as I detested English Literature before but actually really liked it by the end and was thrilled to go from 3 to 6!

MyTutor: What advice would you give to someone else starting tutoring?

Nadal: Take time to choose the tutor who is right for you. Book well in advance and change tutor if it’s not working. Once you get the right one, you can fly!

Fantastic advice and a fantastic result. Well done to Nadal for his phenomenal progress at GCSE’s and thank you for sharing your student story with us.
