MyTutor is on a mission to offer life changing tuition to all. 

Getting a tutor was once just for the few. A good tutor was hard to find, and out of the budget for most. We thought this needed to change.

We’re building a future where access to high quality learning is stress-free for those who can afford it, and funded directly through schools for those who can't. Online tuition, delivering high quality learning in a safe, convenient, and affordable way.

You could say all this makes us a ‘tech’ company. And we are very proud of the tech that means we can match hundreds of thousands of students and parents with the perfect tutor for them out of the thousands on our platform. But at heart, we’re really more of  a people company. We match people with other people who can help them.

Our tutors

Our handpicked tutors have the subject expertise to explain tricky concepts. But the biggest thing MyTutor tutors have is the relationship and rapport they build with students. All our tutors are current or recent undergraduates at British universities, and come from all walks of life. So they don’t just know pythagorean triangles; they know the exams they’ll come up in. And perhaps most importantly, they know how it feels to take them. They’re more than tutors; they’re mentors. 

Our culture

What’s it like to work here? Well, people are at the heart of everything we do. There are so many different career paths at MyTutor, from Software Engineer to Customer Operations. From Marketing to the Data team. But we don’t just get our heads down and do our own jobs. We all go out of our way to support each other, and solve problems together. Expectations around high performance are clear and we help each other to do our best work. We don’t think a great company culture is just free yoga sessions and summer socials (although we do that stuff too). We think it’s about creating a supportive environment where everyone can perform at their best, and be their authentic self, every day. Whoever you are.

MyTutor’s 2022 Gender Pay Gap Report

This is the first official gender pay gap report we’ve submitted using government calculations and guidelines. Our median gender pay gap is 0.1% and our mean gender pay gap is 3%. 

This year's report offers a snapshot of the gender pay gap at MyTutor, taken on 5th April 2022. At that time, we had 328 people employed in the MyTutor team and 10,061 tutors working on our platform.

Understanding the figures
Looking at the wider picture, the ONS reported a 2022 gender pay gap of 8.3% across full-time employees (ONS, 2022), and Women in Tech’s 2022 report indicates an average of 16% in tech. (WomeninTech, 2022). Our median is lower than the average for our sector, but we know there’s more work to do to close the gap.

Our action plan
MyTutor’s mission is to make life-changing learning accessible for all. We know that creating an equitable and inclusive workplace for our team will support us in this mission.

Initiatives to put diversity and inclusion at the heart of what we do, and improve gender representation include:
- Finalising our company commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion by May 2023, with time bound goals
- Improving the representation of women in leadership roles
- Bringing in specialist support to review our hiring processes and creating a more diverse talent pool
- Building progression frameworks and mentoring across the business to give all employees equal opportunity to develop in their role
- Setting up open networks or ERGs (employee resource groups) to support women and minority groups

Product Engineering

Our amazing tutors are what makes MyTutor the best, but none of it would work without a top class platform behind them. Our tech squads work tirelessly to design, build and maintain our online lesson space, website, tutor matching technology, and everything that connects it all together.

Data

With over five thousand tutors and a quarter of a million parents on our database at any one time, there is a lot of data to be analysed if we want to make sure we're offering the best service possible. Whether helping our product team optimise web journeys, supporting operations to find efficiencies, or helping marketing understand how campaigns have performed, every week is different.

Operations and Sales

We host tens of thousands of lessons a month, and that kind of operation needs a lot of support to make it all work! That's where our operations and sales team come in, helping parents, schools, tutors, and of course the students themselves at every stage of the journey, from first learning if we're right for them, to making sure everything runs smoothly post-booking.

Marketing

The average person sees over 5,000 marketing messages a day. So we'd better make sure ours are memorable! Our marketing team combines brand strategists, content writers, social media experts, search engine gurus, and many more besides. So whatever your specialism, there may be a role for you.

People and Finance

This team is the glue that holds everything together. It's the People team setting out our employee wellbeing approach, our IT consultants keeping our tech honed and up to date, or our finance team making sure our tutor payments run smoothly. And much more besides. This is the team that allows everyone else to thrive.
