How do payments work?

Every tutor can set the prices that clients pay by choosing from five bands ranging from £18-30 per hour (two standard and three premium).

This means that tutors end up with between £10-£20 per hour after MyTutor charges and VAT.

When do I get paid?

We take the hassle out of payments by handling them for you through our online payment system. Clients pay for Online Lessons before they take place and this payment is collected by MyTutor on behalf of tutors.

Tutors are paid directly into their bank account on a fortnightly basis. Please see the payment calendar below to find out when you can expect to receive your net payment. Periods run from Saturday to Friday and are paid the following Tuesday.

*BACs payments take around 3 days to process but can sometimes take longer i.e. on bank holiday weekends. If the money hasn’t arrived in your account by the following Friday please contact us at The calendar above is for 2017/18.

Tutor payment details FAQs

Who pays who?

Tutors are self-employed, and are contracted directly by the Client to provide tutoring services. MyTutor raises an invoice on your behalf and then deducts the charges you pay to MyTutor before transferring the funds to your bank account.

Why is there a charge to MyTutor?

These MyTutor charges are to cover marketing (we pay google a lot of money!), the use of the Online Lesson Space, IT maintenance and other administration / operating costs. Finding parents and collecting payments as a freelance tutor can be really tough, so we're commited to making this as easy as possible. We currently invest all proceeds back in to enhancing the website.

Why is there a VAT charge?

As a small business MyTutor happily sat under the VAT threshold however this is no longer the case. This means that we are obliged to include a VAT element to the payment that tutors make to MyTutor.

I've completed an Online Lesson, why can't I see it in my invoices?

Invoices show up on your account after they've been paid. You can see a complete list of your Online Lessons from the bookings page.

I've done some Online Lessons and haven't been paid... what shall I do?

Firstly, please check the payment calendar above to find out when you should expect to be paid. If your payment appears to be late, double check the bank details you provided as part of your application and send us an email to let us know on
