5x – 6 = 3x + 7

whenever you move a term across the equals sign, the sign changes. So first we are going to move all of the x terms onto the left side and all of the number terms onto the right side, remembering that if we move 3x for example, it will become -3x. 5x-3x=6+7 now we need to simplify both sides 2x=13 the last step is to have only one x on the left hand side. Anything we do to one side we also have to do to the other. So we need to divide 2x/2 to get x, so we have to also divide 13/2 to get 6.5 x=6.5
