Calculate the angle x in the following diagram. The area of the square is 16cm squared and the total area is 36.6cm squared.

This question was very difficult to explain through words; if it were to be used in a question paper, it would be presented as a diagram. I intend to use the whiteboard during the inteview to explain both the question and the answer alot better. The square root of 16 is the length of the sides of the square (4cm). The student must realise that this is also the diameter of the circle. We can then calculate the area of the circle (4pi) and subtract this value from the total non-shaded area to get the area of the triangle. Knowing that the area of a triangle is BaseHeight/2, we can find the height of the triangle. Using pythagoras' theorm the length of the hypotenuse can be calculated (10cm). Using the sine rule x = 53.1 degrees
