What is the point of learning about chemistry - how can it be applied to real life?

Chemistry is used daily in many different areas of work; the plastics that we use every day apply organic chemistry as they are synthesised using chemical reactions leading to long chains of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen bonded together. Catalysts are used in industry to speed up reactions, such as using zeolite to increase the speed of petrol production, which saves a lot of time and a lot of money. Chemistry is also used in every reaction that takes place in the human body, and keeps us running efficiently. Therefore, knowing the basic chemistry at GCSE level can lead to much bigger things in the future.
