Explain, with the use of a punnet square, heterozygous inheritance.

First, let's make sure we're clear on what heterozygous inheritance means. Hetero means different like heterosexuals are attracted to a different gender than themselves, and zygous is relating to the word zygote which is a fertilised ovum or egg. So heterozygous means an organism that has two different versions of the same gene (also called alleles). Inheritance is how these genes are passed down from parents to offspring. In heterozygous parents, their alleles are different. This can be shown by using a capital letter to represent the dominant version of the gene, and a lower case letter to represent the recessive version of the gene. We can draw these two different alleles into a punnet square to demonstrate what percentage of offspring is likely to express the dominant gene or the recessive gene which I will draw for you now.
