1) Gluconeogenesis 2) Glycogenesis 3) Glycolysis. Which is stimulated by glucagon production? [A] 1, 2, 3 [B]1 [C] 2, 3 [D] 1,2

B is the answer. Glucagon stimulates an increase in blood sugar/ [glucose] Gluco means glucose is the product Glyco means glycogen (storage of glucose in animals) is the product Neo means substrate is from a new source (e.g. non-saccharide based/fatty or amino acids). Gensis means synthesising new substances Lysis means breaking down of substances. Gluconeogenesis=(making new glucose) increases glucose concentration. Glycogenesis=(makes new glycogen from glucose) decreases glucose concentration. Glycogenolysis (makes glucose from the hydrolysis of glycogen) increasing glucose concentration but this process is not mentioned. Don’t confuse this with Glycolysis, which is a biochemical step in respiration. This is the multistep reaction happening in the cytoplasm of the cell turning glucose into pyruvate (producing net 2 ATP molecules). Therefore, only process 1 increases glucose concentration; thus the answer is B.
