Perhaps an introduction to integration with a simple integral, e.g. the integral of x^2

I would first write out the integral with correct notation, explaining to my tutee exactly what I am drawing and why. I will then explain the 'n+1' rule for integrating simple powers. I will go through the integral, explaining each step - perhaps introducing limits if the student seems to grasp it quickly.

I would then set them a similar question, by drawing it out like they'd be asked in an exam. I would encourage my tutee to try it for themselves, applying the rule I just taught them. If they are struggling, I'd explain it in a different way until it 'clicks' for them.

I would make sure the student understands the concept fully before moving onto more difficult examples.
