Perhaps an introduction to integration with a simple integral, e.g. the integral of x^2

I would first write out the integral with correct notation, explaining to my tutee exactly what I am drawing and why. I will then explain the 'n+1' rule for integrating simple powers. I will go through the integral, explaining each step - perhaps introducing limits if the student seems to grasp it quickly.

I would then set them a similar question, by drawing it out like they'd be asked in an exam. I would encourage my tutee to try it for themselves, applying the rule I just taught them. If they are struggling, I'd explain it in a different way until it 'clicks' for them.

I would make sure the student understands the concept fully before moving onto more difficult examples.

Why is the derivative of x^2 equal to 2x?

Implicitly differentiate the following equation to find dy/dx in terms of x and y: 2x^2y + 2x + 4y – cos (piy) = 17

Given that y=(sin4x)(sec3x), use the product rule to find dy/dx

Write down the values of (1) loga(a) and (2) loga(a^3) [(1) log base a, of a (2) log base a of (a^3)]
