What's the difference between aerobic and anaerobic respiration?

In short Aerobic is with oxygen - think aero=air, therefore oxygen is present. This process also produces more energy and takes place on mitochondria only producing carbon dioxide and water from glucose and oxygen. Anaerobic is without oxygen and occurs in a cells cytoplasm. It turns glucose into lactic acid and water. Less energy is produced in this process.
