Factorise the following a) 8x + 6y b) 7xy + 3xzy c)5xyz - 20x^2y^2z

In order to factorise successfully, we have found the highest common factor for part a,b and c (the highest number that can be divided exactly into each of the terms) and placed these outside of the brackets

a) 2 (4x+3y)

b) xy (7 + 3z)

c) 5xyz ( 1- 4xy)

hint: for part b the order of the letters does not matter!

Expand the brackets to create an equation. (2x+7)(x-3)

(2x+3)/(x-4) - (2x-8)/(2x+1) =1
