Find the equation of the straight line joining points (-1, -4) and (2, 5)

  1. Draw sketch of line 2. Find gradient using m=(y- y1)/(x- x1)= 5--4/2--1=9-3=3 3. Choose one of the points and call it (a,b). I'll pick (2,5) because there's no negaitves. 4. Sub into equation y-b=m(x-a)   y-5= 3(x-2) 5. Simplify  y - 5 = 3x - 6    y = 3x - 1
