Describe the course taken by a deoxygenated red blood cell returning to the heart from the circulation, naming any vessels or chambers along its course.

Following its return to the right atrium via the vena cava, the RBC passes through the mitral valve and into the right ventricle. Upon ventricular contraction, the RBC is ejected via the pulmonary valve and into the pulmonary artery where it travels through the lungs and becomes oxygenated. The RBC then returns to the left atrium via the pulmonary veins before passing into the left ventricle via the tricuspid valve and exits into the circulation via the aorta.
