Solve for x 2x +3 + (4x-1)/2 = 10

2x +3 + (4x-1)/2 = 10                  The divisor (2) is the biggest problem right now so we need to get it on its own...

(4x-1)/2 = 10-2x-3                       Equation has been rearranged!

4x-1 = 2(10-2x-3)                        Now we can eliminate the divisor by multiplying both sides by 2

4x-1 = 20-4x-6                            Expand the brackets

4x-1 = 14-4x                               Simplify

8x = 15                                      Group terms of x on one side and simplify

x = 15/8                                     Divide both sides by 8 to find the value of x on its own and you're golden!

Check your answer by plugging it into the original equation you were given
