How does the collecting duct aid in the control of the concentration of urine?

When the concentration of urine is low, the blood will reabsorb more water from the collecting duct. This is via the action of ADH increasing the permeability of the collecting duct walls (via aquaporins). (Vice versa for when the concentration is high.)
