Rearrange to make x the subject of the equation: 4(3x+y) = 12-2y

To tackle this question, start by expanding the brackets:
12x + 4y = 12 - 2y
Making x the subject of the equation requires x to be on its own.
So, in this example, we need to first get rid of the 4y. Given that both sides of the equation are equal, we must subtract 4y from both sides of the equation. This gives:
12x = 12 - 2y - 4y
12x = 12 - 6y
Finally we must divide both sides of the equation by 12 in order to get x on its own (i.e. the subject of the equation)
x = 1 - 1/2y
