solve for x: (x-2)(x+3)=2(2x+11)

expand the brackets to get x2-2x+3x-6=4x+22 bring all the terms to one side x2-2x+3x-6-4x-22=0 (remember:if you do something to one side, do the same thing to the other! e.g. -4x on both side) gather all the terms together x2-3x-28=0 We now need to factorise, to do this we need to find two numbers that equal 28 when multiplied and have a difference of 3 in order to make the "-3x". In this case we can use -7 and 4. so we can simplify to: (x-7)(x+4) =0 For this statement to be true, x will equal 7 or -4. You have now solved the equation! :) To check, we can put one of the answers back into the original question, lets use x=7 ((7)-2)((7)+3)=2(2(7)+11) 5x10=2x(14+11) 50=2x25        *this is true so answer is correct
