What is the difference between mitosis and meiosis?

Mitosis and meiosis are both ways that cell division can happen in humans. Mitosis produces two daughter cells that are genetically identical with the same number of chromosomes (diploid). Whereas, meiosis produces 4 haploid daughter cells which are genetically unique. Diploid means that the cell has two copies of each chromosome- 46 chromosomes. Haploid means that the cell has one set of chromosomes- 23 chromosomes.
