Describe the lock and key theory in reference to the enzyme Amylase

The lock and key theory suggests that there is a complimentary shaped substrate that will fit exactly into the specific shape of the enzyme's active site. In this case, amalyase is the enzyme and the substrate is starch. The starch molecule will be complimentary in shape and fit into the active site of Amalyase, so it can be broken down into maltose.
