Find the value of 5x - 3y when x = -2 and y = -4

This question is all to do with substitution. First, rewrite the question but in instead of writing x and y, put brackets. It will look like this: 5( ) -3( ) Now inside the brackets where x and y would go write the value for the x and the y. It will look like this: 5( -2 ) -3( -4 ) Now multiply out the brackets to get -10+12    which equals 2.
