Write √98+3√8-√200 in the form a√2, where a is an integer

Step 1: Put all the surds in to the form a√2. Starting with √98 try and work out what numbers multiply together with 2 to get 98 (2x49). Therefore √98=√(2x49). As 49 is a square number you can take it outside the square root sign but remember to square root it. So √98=7√2. Repeat with the other surds to get 3√8=3√(4x2)= (3x2)√2=6√2 and √200=√(100x2)=10√2 Step 2: Add/minus the three numbers in front of √2 (according to the question) so 7+6-10=3 and then write the answer in the form a√2 hence 3√2
