Find y and x of the to following equations: x +3y = 11 and x + 2y = 9.

This question can be solved using the elimination method. Set out the problem as follows: x+3y=11 - x+2y=9              0+y=2      => y=2              Therefore one can substitute the value of y obtained in to any one of the two eaquations given. For example, x + (3x2) =11. Rearranging, this gives x = 5.
