What is a Group 1 Element?

Group one elements are all metals. They are known as the Alkaline Metals. All of these element atoms have one electron on their outer shell. This means that, when they react, they lose this one electron to get a full outer shell. As electrons have negative charge, and minusing a minus makes a plus, these atoms then become ions with 1+ charge.
