Explain how a simple reflex works, you answer should include a) one type of receptor and the stimulus that the receptor detects. b) how information is passed from the receptor to the effector

Type of receptor and stimulus e.g. eye receptors and light. Information is passed from the receptor to the effector by neurones: sensory, relay and motor. The receptor converts the stimulus into electrical information which is carried by the sensory neurones to the central nervous system, this includes the brain and spinal cord. The relay neurone transmits the electrical information from one part of the central nervous system to the other. The motor neurones transmit the electrical information from the central nervous system to the effector muscles which in this example would be the eye muscles, and would cause a response e.g. to contract in response to light. In between neurones there are synapses, the electrical information is transmitted across the synapse allowing different neurones to communicate
