Write a word equation for the reaction between marble chips and hydrochloric acid. (1) How could the rate of reaction be increased and why? (7)

i) Marble chips are made from calcium carbonate.Hydrochloric acid + calcium carbonate -> Calcium chloride + water + carbon dioxideii) The rate of reaction can be increased by increasing the concentration of Hydrochloric acid, which is the limiting factor in this equation. By increasing HCl, you increase the number of collisions between the marble chips and the HCl. There are more acid particles in the same volume, so a higher chance of collisions occurring.Another way to increase Rate of reaction is by increasing the temperature of the HCl, which increases the energy of the atoms, leading to more frequent successful collisions.
