TMV can cause plants to produce less chlorophyll. This causes leaf discoloration. Explain why plants with TMV have stunted growth.

Chlorophyll is a pigment molecule produced by plants that they use to absorb light energy (photons), which is needed for the light dependent section of photosynthesis. Photosynthesis makes glucose, the energy source for the plant cells that they need for respiration. Less respiration = less metabolic activity of the cell, therefore less production of the proteins/cellulose they need to grow.
