How do I differentiate?

If we have the curve y=x3+3x2-7x+5, to differentiate it we firstly multiply x by its power, and then reduce the power by one. Therefore x3 will differentiate to 3x2, 3x2 will go to 6x and -7x will go to -7.Since 5 is technically 5x0, this will differentiate to 0.Therefore dy/dx=3x2+6x-7.
