What are the differences between mitosis and meiosis?

Firstly, meiosis produces four daughter cells whereas mitosis only produces two. The daughter cells produced by meiosis are haploid, meaning they only contain half of the number of chromosomes (23), and these cells become gametes (sperm and egg cells). Meiosis is used in sexual reproduction.Mitosis, however, produces daughter cells which are diploid (46 chromosomes). Mitosis is used in asexual reproduction, growth and repair.
