Explain the role of anti-diuretic hormone in the production of concentrated urine

  • when the water potential of the blood is too low (1) * This is detected by receptors in the hypothalamus (2)* the pituitary gland in the brain then secretes more ADH (3) * ADH increases the permeability of the the collecting duct, by the recruitment of more aquaporins (4)* more water is reabsorbed by leaving the nephron and moving into the blood (5)* This occurs by osmosis down the water potential gradient (6)
