Given the function f(x) = 2x^(2) + 3, find the value of x when f(x) = 53.

  1. Substitute f(x) = 53 into the equation given:f(x) = 53 = 2x2 + 32).

    2. Rearrange to get x2 on the left hand side: x2 = (53-3)/2 = 253).

    3. Square root both sides.

Remember, the answer can be positive or negative:x = +5 or -5
