How to we acquire monoclonal antibodies

Firstly - What are antibodies? Antibodies are part of the immune system which are specific to the pathogen. They help destroy the pathogen. And what are monoclonal antibodies? They're just antibodies that are formed from a single culture - meaning that theyre all from the same batch and are just clones of each other. (Mono (one) - from one batch, Clonal - clones) Why are they useful? We can use them to detect cancer cells, several diagnostic tests including pregnancy tests So how do we get them Simple overview - Insert antigens into host ( usually a mouse), Wait for mouse to create antibodies for the specific compound, collect sample (Usually from the spleen), Add detergent to break down the cells and fuse with cancerous cell, Hybridoma formation (High replication rate) , Collect produced specific antibodies.
