What is coronary heart disease and what are the risk factors?

Coronary heart disease involves the arteries supplying the heart, known as the coronary arteries. There are two arteries namely the left and right coronary arteries. Healthy coronary arteries are nice and wide, supplying the heart muscle with sufficient amount of blood and oxygen. Coronary heart disease is when the coronary arteries become narrow due to fatty deposits. Sometimes, the arteries could become completely blocked, resulting in a heart attack- this is fatal. There are a number of risk factors for coronary heart disease including: a high fat diet, smoking, high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure and a lack of exercise.
