Name and describe the function of the different organelles within a cell, and compare the differences within a plant and an animal cell.

Nucleus- controls cell's activity. DNA transcription occurs here. Stores DNA (genetic material).Cytoplasm- some cell reactions occur here. Fluid-Jelly-like environment. Glycolysis occurs here.Mitochondria-site of aerobic respiration. Production of ATP. Used as an energy currency within a cell.Ribosomes- can be attached to endoplasmic reticulum (RER) or floating in cytoplasm. Site of translation.Cell membrane- permeable to certain substances (contains channels and pores). Controls entry of substances. All those above are present in animal AND plant cells. In addition, plant cells also have:cell wall-provides stability and strength (mostly made up of cellulose).vacuole- similair to cytoplasm. It is enclosed in membrane and provides support.Chloroplast-required for photosynthesis.
