Tip: when answering ‘compare and contrast’ questions, use keywords such as ‘whereas’, ‘in contrast to’, ‘similarly’ and ‘comparatively’.Eukaryotic cells are plant and animals cells, whereas prokaryotic cells are bacterial cells.Similarities: both cell types have a cytosplasm; both cell types contain genetic material (DNA); both cell types have a cell membrane.Differences: genetic material is contained with the nucleus of eukaryotes, whereas prokaryotic genetic material is in the form of circular DNA and plasmids, floating freely in the cytoplasm; prokaryotic cells are small, whereas eukaryotic cells are larger.
