Describe the process of DNA replication

• Hydrogen bonds holding base pairs in the anti- parallel strands are broken by an enzyme; the two halves of the molecule separate • DNA unwinds and the strands separate; DNA polymerase catalyses the addition of free nucleotides to the exposed bases • Each chain acts as a template; free nucleotides joined to complementary bases by enzyme DNA polymerase• Result: 2 DNA molecules, each made up of one newly synthesised chain and one conserved chain
