Solve 3x - 5 = 13

Algebra can be tricky to get a hold of but once you've worked through a few questions, you'll quickly get the hang of it!The aim of this question is to find x, that means the solution will look like this: x = _. This shows us that we have to get x on one side of the equals sign and everything else on the other. Remember that whatever we do to one side of the equation, we have to do to the other (so the equation is still equal at the end!). We'll work through the equation step-by-step, and write down what we are going to do to each side of the equation on the left-hand-side:3x - 5 = 13(plus 5 to get the 3x on its own) 3x - 5 + 5 = 13 + 53x = 18(divide by 3 to get x on its own) x = 18/3x = 6
