Solve the simultaneous equations, x+y = 16, 5x -2y = 17

Multiply the first equation by 2 to obtain 2x+2y = 32,Then use the elimination technique and add the first equation into the second equation to get : 7x = 49 therefore divide by 7 to find x = 7 Sub this value of x into the first equation and rearrange to find y = 9
